Wyther’s Way
Since 2024 Interplay Theatre has been delivering creative session on the Wyther’s Estate. The Wyther’s Way program is a space where we chat, eat and take part in creative activities together, outdoors. Our free-form community sessions take place during the summer on the Wyther’s estate in Armley. They are free and are open to anyone who lives nearby, to have a cuppa, and have a go at something creative.
We also provide a Walking Bus to Interplay Youth Theatre on a Thursday evening for young people aged 8-11 to be able to attend sessions with us on a regular basis.
The story so far
We began meeting families and running creative sensory play sessions on the Wyther’s estate in Armley. Funded by Leeds City Council, we worked with under 10s and their adults, and soon our afternoons turned into a session for the teenagers.
This work developed into a new phase of the project “On Our Streets” working with 11-19s year olds on the estate, with funding from The National Lottery’s Community Fund.
Since February 2025, we have explored different creative approaches with a mixture of free form, led activity and one-to-one delivery. We chat, eat and take part in creative activities together outdoors.
In February 2026 we hosted an Art Show called “From Our Streets” celebrating all the creative work that the young people had taken part in and made.
